Walk To Grant Wishes For Local Children This May

This May, there are eight exciting events that you and the whole family can take part in. If you live in Georgia, Virginia, South Dakota, Illinois, Connecticut, Oregon, or Michigan, you can participate in a Walk for Wishes event to benefit your local Make-A-Wish chapter. The best part of it all is that you will be helping to grant wishes for local children in your community who are battling critical illnesses. 

Grab Your Walking Shoes And Walk For Wishes

The temperatures are finally rising, making it the perfect time of the year to head outdoors and enjoy the beautiful springtime weather. If you enjoy walking or running, a Make-A-Wish Walk for Wishes event is a great way for you to get involved in your community while also having fun at the same time.

Eight Make-A-Wish events are taking place on May 2, May 9, or May 16. May 2 events include the Make-A-Wish Georgia Walk For Wishes event in Atlanta, the Make-A-Wish Greater Virginia Walk for Wishes event in Richmond, and the Make-A-Wish Michigan Walk for Wishes event in Detroit.

May 9 events include the Make-A-Wish Connecticut Walk for Wishes event in Bridgeport, the Make-A-Wish Oregon Walk for Wishes event in Portland, and the Fifth Third River Bank Run in Grand Rapids, benefiting Make-A-Wish Michigan.

If you live in South Dakota, you can take part in the Make-A-Wish South Dakota Walk for Wishes event in Rapid City on May 16, or if you live in Illinois you can enjoy the Walk and Run for Wishes in Edwardsville, benefiting Make-A-Wish Illinois.

Walk For Wishes On May 2

Register today to attend the Walk for Wishes events in Atlanta, Richmond, and Detroit on May 2. The Georgia event will take place at Philips Arena (1 Philips Drive) with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. The walk will take place from approximately 9:30-10:30 a.m. with a Family Fun Festival taking place from 10:30 a.m. until noon.

There is no registration fee, but participants are asked to fundraise for Make-A-Wish Georgia. Participants who raise more than $100 will earn an official Walk for Wishes t-shirt. Participants who raise more than $1,000 will earn VIP status! VIP status will get you a free breakfast before the walk and VIP parking. Register for the Atlanta Walk for Wishes here.

The Richmond Walk for Wishes event will take place at Stony Point Fashion Park (9200 Stony Point Parkway). Registration and check-in will be held from 8-9 a.m. on the morning of the event, with the walk kickoff at 9 a.m. Enjoy a Finish Line Celebration from 10 a.m. until noon.

Like the Atlanta walk, there is no registration fee, but participants are asked to fundraise for Make-A-Wish Greater Virginia. Participants who raise more than $100 will earn an official Walk for Wishes t-shirt. Register today!

Walk for Wishes at the Detroit Zoo (8450 W. 10 Mile Rd., Royal Oak) and walk to grant wishes for local children while also getting a chance to see all of your favorite zoo animals at the same time. Registration will take place at 7 a.m. on the day of the walk, with the opening ceremony starting at 8:30 a.m. The walk itself will begin at approximately 9 a.m.

Walkers will enjoy morning refreshments, a complimentary lunch following the walk, family-fun entertainment, and full access to the Detroit Zoo until 5 p.m. There is no registration fee to attend, but participants are strongly encouraged to raise at least $100 or more. Register today!

Make Wishes Come True On May 9

If you live in Connecticut, Michigan, or Oregon, you can walk to grant wishes on May 9. Turn your steps into wishes granted by registering for the Make-A-Wish Connecticut Walk for Wishes, taking place at the Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport. Registration will be held from 4:30 until 5:30 p.m., with the walk following at 5:30 p.m. A Wish Celebration Party will be held from 6:30 until 8 p.m.

There is no registration fee, but participants are strongly encouraged to fundraise for Make-A-Wish Connecticut. Free admission includes zoo entrance, parking, and access to the Wish Celebration Party with food, music, and entertainment.

If you live in Oregon, register for the Portland Walk for Wishes (Riverfront Park in Salem), which begins at 9 a.m. with registration, and the opening ceremony following at 10 a.m. The 5k walk begins at 10:15 a.m. with post-walk festivities to follow. Adults walk for $25 each and children walk for $10. Wish Kids, however, walk for free!

Top fundraisers will be rewarded with prizes! All participants can enjoy snacks and ice cream, as well as fun family-friendly activities following the walk.

If you live in Michigan, don’t miss the Fifth Third River Bank Run, taking place in downtown Grand Rapids and benefiting Make-A-Wish Michigan. The event is the largest 25k road race in the country, including a 5k run, 10k run, 25k hand cycle race, 25k wheelchair race, 25k race, a 5k and 10k combo run, 5k and 2k combo run, and a 5k community walk. This year will mark the 38th Annual Fifth Third River Bank Run, which is sure to be an amazing time.

Help Grant A Child’s Wish On May 16

Make-A-Wish South Dakota and Make-A-Wish Illinois both have Walk for Wishes events taking place on May 16. By participating in any of the May Walk for Wishes events, you can help to make wishes come true for kids in your community. Plus, Walk for Wishes events are fun, family-friendly activities that get you outside in the gorgeous spring sunshine. What could be better than that?

Register for the Make-A-Wish South Dakota Walk for Wishes and walk approximately 1.25 miles through downtown Rapid City, all for an amazing cause. There is no fee to attend, but walkers are encouraged to fundraise for Make-A-Wish South Dakota.

Individuals who raise more than $100 will receive an official Walk for Wishes t-shirt, and individuals who raise more than $250 will receive an engraved mobile charger with a gift box. Fundraisers who raise more than $500 will receive a pair of movie tickets from The Elks Theatre, and fundraisers who raise more than $1,000 will receive a $50 gift card to a Rapid City restaurant.

Register today to grant wishes for South Dakota kids. Registration will be held at 9 a.m. with the event program following at 9:30 a.m. The walk will begin at 10.

If you live in Illinois, you won’t want to miss the Make-A-Wish Illinois Walk for Wishes event in Edwardsville. Register today and head on over to the Korte Stadium at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville on May 16. You won’t want to miss this fun wish-granting event! Enjoy either a one-mile Fun Walk or a timed 5k run.

Registration is $30 for adult runners, $25 for adult walkers, $15 for students ages 18-22, $10 for children under the age of 18, and free for Wish Families, infants, or toddlers. Participants are also encouraged to fundraise for Make-A-Wish Illinois.

Don’t miss this fun event! Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., with the race following at 9 a.m. The event will end at approximately 11 a.m.

If you cannot attend any of these eight events or maybe you don’t live in any of these areas, stay tuned for other upcoming Make-A-Wish events.
